Saint Paul and the state of Minnesota rank education high on their list of priorities. They have worked diligently to make their educational system one of the best in the U.S. As such, Minnesota’s educational system has been herald as a national model.
The state has 52 public and 61 private institutions of higher learning. In Saint Paul alone, there are over fifteen post-secondary institutions including Hamline University, St. Paul Technical College, Macalester College, Northwestern College, Concordia College St. Paul, and the Metropolitan State University
Of those residents 25 years and older, more than 90 percent have a high school diploma. Additionally, the state has one of the lowest dropout rates in the U.S.
According to the 2000 Census, over 287,500 people call Saint Paul home. The three dominate racial groups in the city are Whites (67.02%), Asians (12.36%) and African-Americans (11.71%). Saint Paul also holds the distinction of having the world’s second largest urban Hmong population.
